PDP Denies Involvement in South-South Congress

The PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) has distanced itself from the gathering, insisting that the party has not conducted any South-South Zonal Congress. The event, however, took place in defiance of a High Court order issued in Port Harcourt, which barred the conduct of the congress in Cross River or any other part of Nigeria.

The case was filed by Tony Ejiogu, a PDP member from Ward 3 in Etche Local Government Area, and Field Nkoro, a former Vice-Chairman of the South-East PDP.

Wike and Donald Duke Attend Disputed Congress

Despite the legal restrictions, Wike was actively involved in the congress, casting his vote at the event. Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, was also present, further solidifying the rift within the party.

Lere Olayinka, Wike’s media aide, confirmed his participation in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, voting at the South-South PDP Zonal Congress going on in Calabar, Cross River State.”

This development adds to the ongoing leadership tussle within the PDP, with factions vying for control amid legal battles and political maneuvering. As tensions rise, the party’s next moves will be crucial in determining its stability ahead of upcoming elections.
