CurrentReport Blog The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has emphasized the necessity of a dynamic opposition to ensure the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) delivers better governance.
During a recent meeting, Steve Oruruo, Chairman of the PDP’s 15-member caretaker committee, vowed that the party would provide formidable competition to the APC in upcoming state elections. This declaration followed a courtesy visit to the state Commissioner of Police, CP Augustina Ogbodo, at the command’s headquarters in Abakaliki. Oruruo’s delegation also included visits to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Oruruo highlighted the urgent need for an alternative party, positioning the PDP to fill this role effectively. “PDP has bounced back in Ebonyi,” he asserted. “The strongest aspect of an opposition party is unity. If we stay strong and united with a clear vision, we will triumph.”
He continued, “Our aim is to establish a party that not only competes in elections but wins them. We want to foster a plurality of opinions, allowing people to express diverse perspectives. A society without a vibrant opposition is stagnant.”
Oruruo stressed the importance of a strong PDP to keep the APC accountable, ensuring better performance from the ruling party. He also recognized the police as crucial partners in advancing democracy, advocating for security in the party’s activities. “The police have shown commitment and expertise in maintaining democracy. Their role is indispensable for ensuring fairness and orderliness,” Oruruo noted.
CP Augustina Ogbodo, in her address to the PDP committee members, assured that the police would create an enabling environment for all political parties to operate effectively. She pledged to maintain fairness and impartiality in all official matters.
