This announcement was made during an X Space engagement, where Obi emphasized the importance of Yunusa’s new role in integrating the movement into the Labour Party’s structure across all levels.

Dr. Tanko Yunusa, who previously served as Obi’s spokesman during the 2023 presidential campaign, was selected after extensive consultations within the movement. According to Obi, the consensus was that the position should be zoned to the North, reflecting the inclusive approach the movement aims to maintain. Yunusa’s appointment is viewed as a strategic step towards laying a solid foundation for the movement, ensuring that its members are fully integrated into the Labour Party’s framework.

Obi stated, “After extensive consultations within the movement and reviewing feedback from Obidients through the ideas submitted, there is a consensus that the position of National Coordinator should go to the North. From the nominations submitted by key stakeholders in the movement and shared with the engagement team, Dr. Tanko Yunusa emerged as the most nominated candidate for this role.”

He further clarified that Yunusa’s position, along with other roles, is on an interim basis as the movement continues to build its structure. Obi reiterated his commitment to a leadership model that listens to and includes every member of the movement, encouraging ongoing participation and thoughtful nominations as the structure evolves.

This appointment marks the beginning of a series of regional consultations aimed at further solidifying the movement’s foundation. Obi encouraged all members to stay engaged and contribute to the nomination of competent individuals to lead the movement towards achieving its goal of a better Nigeria.
