Barrister Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party’s candidate for the governorship election, along with his running mate, Alhaji Yusuf Asamah Kadiri, stood by Obi’s side during the inauguration. Despite the inclement weather, the leaders of the party embarked on an energetic road walk through major streets in Benin City, culminating in a visit to the bustling Uwelu Spare Parts Market. Here, they were met with enthusiastic cheers from traders and supporters, signaling robust grassroots support.
Following the market visit, Peter Obi and his entourage paid a courtesy visit to the esteemed Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II. This visit was aimed at seeking the royal blessings and prayers crucial for the party’s success in the upcoming election. Addressing the royal father, Obi expressed gratitude for the Oba’s ongoing contributions to societal stability and emphasized the importance of free, fair, and credible elections for Nigeria’s progress. He expressed confidence that the Oba’s blessings would significantly bolster the party’s campaign efforts.
