CurrentReport Blog Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has pledged to correct past mistakes as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, Obi emphasized the need for the party to ensure that the right candidates emerge for various positions in the next elections.

Obi stated, “Let’s do the right thing, let’s go from ward to local government to state, to zone and nationally, everybody is free to contest.” He further added that the LP is committed to fairness and creating a party that people can trust to represent the values of justice and equality.

The former governor of Anambra outlined that the party aims to offer Nigerians the best candidates for all levels of government, including the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, governors, and other positions. He reiterated that LP would avoid repeating past mistakes by ensuring that only committed party members, and not transients, are selected to run for office.

Obi also stressed the importance of ideologically driven leadership within the party, saying, “We must have senators who agree with us. Even if we fail, we fail doing right. It’s better to fail doing right than to be on the side of wrong.”

His comments reflect the Labour Party’s focus on integrity and discipline as it moves forward in its preparations for the 2027 elections.
