CurrentReport Blog Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has firmly stated his unwavering commitment and loyalty to the party.
This clarification comes amid speculations prompted by his recent comments about the ‘Obidient Movement’.
In a statement released on Thursday, Obi addressed the concerns that arose after a journalist confronted him at Abuja airport, questioning whether his remarks about the Obidient Movement indicated a potential departure from the Labour Party. Obi made it clear that his dedication to the Labour Party remains steadfast.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I remain a committed, loyal Labour Party member,” Obi declared. He emphasized that his primary goal is to work closely with other party leaders to reconcile valued members and to forge partnerships with like-minded individuals and parties nationwide. “My aspiration and desire, working closely with other leaders, is to reconcile our valued members and partner with like minds and parties all over the country to build a strong and better party that will catalyze and commence the rebuilding of a new Nigeria,” Obi stated.
Obi’s recent comments about the Obidient Movement, which he clarified was not confined to any single political party, had led to some confusion among supporters and the general public. The Labour Party had created a directorate for the Obidient Movement, a decision that has since been rescinded.
“My statement yesterday was intended to clarify some issues that are of concern to our teeming supporters, some of whom are not members of any political party but are desirous for a new Nigeria,” Obi explained. He reassured supporters that their collective goal and aspiration for a new Nigeria remain unchanged.
