Petroleum Tanker Overturns in Oyo State, Firefighters Prevent Potential Fire Outbreak

CurrentReport Blog A petroleum tanker carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, has overturned in Oyo State, Nigeria. The incident occurred on Saturday morning, around 9 am, at Offa-Metta along the Oyo-Ogbomoso expressway.

According to eyewitness reports, the IVECO trailer tanker, registered as Jigawa GMN 413 XA, swerved off the road, causing the tanker to overturn and detach from its truck head. The truck was carrying 45,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), also known as diesel.

The Oyo State Fire Service was alerted to the scene at 9:38 am. In response, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the accident and deployed a team of firefighters, led by ACFS Tijani Bamidele, to handle the situation. Upon arrival, the team took immediate action to prevent a potential fire outbreak by using foam chemical compounds to suppress any risk of ignition.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, and the firefighters remained on standby for a period, ensuring that safety measures were thoroughly implemented.

This incident highlights the potential dangers of transporting hazardous materials and the quick response required to mitigate any hazards to the public. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.
