Police in Abuja Recover Nine Million Naira, Arrest Seven Notorious Kidnappers

CURRENT REPORT BLOG In a significant crackdown on criminal activities, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the arrest of seven notorious kidnappers in Abuja, alongside the recovery of nine million naira. Led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh, the operation saw the apprehension of wanted criminals linked to high-profile kidnapping cases within the FCT and its surrounding areas.

According to CP Igweh, the arrests were made possible through a well-coordinated operation conducted by operatives of the Utako police division, spearheaded by CSP Victor Godfrey. The suspects were apprehended in locations including Tudun – Wada Lugbe and Pyakasa area of Trademore.

The identified kidnappers include Usman Muazu, Aliyu Mohammed, Awwal Dahiru, Rabi Sani, Madina Abubakar, Jonah Elimelech, Saminu Idris, and Mariji Iliya, hailing from various regions across Nigeria. All suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement in criminal activities and are cooperating with authorities to apprehend other members of their gang.

In addition to the arrests, the police recovered a cache of weapons and paraphernalia, including knives, cutlasses, bulletproof vests, and charms, further implicating the suspects in illicit activities.

CP Igweh disclosed that a total of 79 individuals were also apprehended during raids on various black spots across the FCT, including areas such as Trademore, Galadimawa, Maitama, and Gwagwalada. The raids targeted uncompleted buildings where criminals often hide, leading to the confiscation of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs.

“And we speak, the suspects who have been profiled are in custody undergoing interrogation at respective division, while those found wanting will be charge to court,” he said.

To recall, a total of 72 suspects have been arrested nationwide which 22 kidnapped victims were rescued and reunited with their families in the last two weeks.
