CURRENT REPORT BLOG The Presidency rebuffed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s call for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation, describing it as “reckless” and politically motivated. Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga asserted that contrary to Atiku’s claims, Tinubu remains actively engaged in addressing security challenges, even during a private visit to France. The Presidency emphasized that Tinubu is in constant communication with officials and security chiefs, working tirelessly to eradicate criminal activities in the country. The response suggested that Atiku’s statements may be influenced by his electoral defeat and fell short of the expected standards from an elder statesman.
In contrast, Atiku had criticised Tinubu for being seemingly indifferent to the rising insecurity in Nigeria. Atiku questioned Tinubu’s commitment, especially during a private visit, and highlighted specific incidents of violence. The back-and-forth underscores the political tensions surrounding security issues in the country, with both sides presenting conflicting narratives about Tinubu’s role and effectiveness in addressing the challenges.
