The event, which was colorful yet understated, featured a military parade held at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
President Tinubu, as the anniversary’s Special Guest of Honour, arrived at the venue at 10 a.m., where he was welcomed by military pipers. Following the inspection of the Quarter Guard, mounted by the Guards Brigade, he proceeded to the saluting dais to take the national salute, signaling the commencement of the day’s celebrations.

One of the key highlights of the 64th-anniversary event was a symbolic change of guards, marking a significant tradition within the Nigerian Armed Forces. This was followed by a stunning display by the Colour Patrol, which represents Nigeria’s national and military pride. The Guards Brigade’s silent drill platoon also captivated the audience with its precision and discipline, leaving spectators in awe.
High-profile guests, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, cabinet ministers, presidential aides, and members of the diplomatic corps, gathered to witness the occasion. The atmosphere was further enriched by performances from a combined mass band and a cultural troupe representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, showcasing the nation’s rich diversity.
Anniversary Climax and Symbolic Gestures
The celebration culminated with President Tinubu signing the anniversary register, marking the official close of the event. Joined by Vice President Shettima, the leadership of the National Assembly, Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, and the National Security Adviser, the President cut the anniversary cake, a traditional gesture of unity and peace.
As a symbolic act of peace, President Tinubu and other dignitaries released white pigeons, signifying hope and tranquility for Nigeria amidst its ongoing challenges.
