CurrentReport Blog President Bola Tinubu, along with the Federal Executive Council (FEC), has announced the scrapping of the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development. The decision was made during the FEC meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja.
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, disclosed the development via his official X handle. In his post, he explained that the responsibilities of the Niger Delta Ministry will now be managed by the newly created Ministry of Regional Development, which will oversee regional development commissions, such as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and North East Development Commission.
In addition, the role of the Ministry of Sports Development will now be taken over by the National Sports Commission, signaling a significant restructuring of Nigeria’s sports administration.
Furthermore, the FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, combining efforts to boost the nation’s cultural and tourism sectors under one ministry.
