CurrentReport Blog The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu plans to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The announcement was made during the 13th memorial anniversary of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, held in Owerri on Tuesday.

Kanu’s Release to Restore Peace in the Southeast

Ambassador Ojukwu highlighted that the President recognizes the strategic importance of Kanu’s release in addressing insecurity in the Southeast. She explained that freeing Kanu would expose the criminal elements exploiting IPOB’s name to perpetuate violence and disorder in the region.

“President Tinubu understands the importance of Kanu’s release. It will expose the masqueraders behind the violence and help restore order. I will do whatever it takes to ensure His Excellency grants this request,” she stated.

She further emphasized that the Igbo people, historically known for their unity and enterprise, must reclaim their region from insecurity and economic disruptions caused by violence.

Condemnation of “Sit-at-Home” Orders

Ambassador Ojukwu strongly condemned the violent “sit-at-home” orders imposed in the Southeast, describing them as detrimental to the region’s economic activities and inconsistent with the principles of self-determination.

“Ndigbo are enterprising and their brother’s keepers. We must reclaim our land and continue to promote the ideals for which Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu stood,” she urged.

Nnamdi Kanu has been in custody since his controversial repatriation from Kenya, a situation that has sparked regional tensions. His release is seen by many as a critical step towards distinguishing genuine freedom fighters from criminal elements operating in the Southeast.
