CurrentReport Blog The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has made a strong appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to address the grievances of protesters by cutting down on the cost of governance and eliminating wasteful expenditures. Dr. Falalu Bello, National Chairman of the PRP, emphasized this in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, acknowledging the fundamental right of citizens to protest and express their freedoms.

Citizens’ Right to Protest

Dr. Bello reiterated the importance of peaceful protests, urging the #EndBadGovernance demonstrators to exercise their rights without resorting to violence. He highlighted the historical significance of protests in Nigeria, tracing back to the First Republic in 1965 when citizens protested against a tariff increase. He also cited the June 12 protests in 1993 and the Occupy Nigeria movement in 2012 as notable examples of the democratic process in action.

Call for Prudent Governance

“The current wave of protests in Nigeria is a testament to the resilience and determination of our citizens to demand better governance and improvement in their living conditions,” said Bello. He underscored the PRP’s stance on the need for a significant reduction in governance costs, urging the government to prioritize prudent spending and eliminate unnecessary expenditures. He also emphasized the necessity of tackling corruption, holding public officials accountable, and ensuring transparency in government transactions.

Security and Youth Involvement

Bello also called for improved security measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all Nigerians. He stressed the importance of a peaceful resolution to the ongoing issues and urged the youth, who make up 60 percent of the electorate, to join the PRP in their efforts to replace the APC government. According to Bello, the APC has exacerbated the difficulties faced by Nigerians since taking over from the PDP.
