CurrentReport Blog Veteran Nigerian rapper, Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, popularly known as Ruggedman, has spoken out in defense of Afrobeats superstar Davido, who has faced backlash for his recent comments about the Nigerian economy.
Davido, during a podcast interview, advised Americans against relocating to Africa, particularly Nigeria, citing the country’s economy as being in “shambles.” His remarks sparked widespread criticism on social media.
Reacting to the controversy, Ruggedman took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to support Davido, emphasizing that his statement reflects the current reality in Nigeria. He urged the government to address the nation’s economic challenges rather than focus on the backlash against the singer.
Ruggedman wrote:
“Ok, Davido has said what he said. Moving forward, the government should fix Nigeria so nobody will say such again. All this barking all over the place is not fixing the nation. The hardship is too much.”
The rapper highlighted that the criticism aimed at Davido does not solve the country’s issues, stressing that the focus should be on alleviating the suffering of Nigerians.
