The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has initiated an emergency appeal, aiming to raise CHF 27 million (approximately ₦23 billion) in support of the Nigerian Red Cross Society. This crucial funding is intended to address the dire hunger crisis unfolding in Nigeria. A substantial number of 1,092,300 people will be the beneficiaries of this humanitarian assistance.

During a press briefing held in Abuja, Bhupinder Tomar, the head of the delegation for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, shed light on the severity of the hunger crisis that has gripped Nigeria this year. He also expressed his appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s proactive step in declaring a state of emergency concerning food insecurity. This crisis underscores the critical need for immediate and sustained humanitarian intervention to avert further suffering among the country’s vulnerable populations.

The hunger crisis in Nigeria is a matter of great concern, as it poses significant challenges to food access, nutrition, and overall well-being. The International Federation of Red Cross is working relentlessly to secure the necessary resources to provide essential aid and support to the affected individuals, ensuring they receive sustenance, medical care, and other critical services during this trying time.
