CurrentReport Blog The Reformed Arewa Youth Coalition (RAYC) has recently voiced strong concerns regarding the conduct of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, alleging a disregard for the principle of federal character in his appointments.
During a press conference held in Abuja over the weekend, the group expressed dismay over what they perceive as a trend of lopsided appointments, suggesting that the FCT Minister is operating as though the territory were an extension of Rivers State, neglecting its status as the Center of Unity.
In a statement delivered by the President of RAYC, Comrade Attahiru Musa, the group condemned what they view as a departure from the mandate of promoting inclusivity and unity within the FCT. They emphasized the need for appointments to reflect the diverse makeup of the territory, warning against the potential consequences of polarizing the capital along ethnic and religious lines.
RAYC’s statement highlighted the importance of adhering to the principle of federal character, particularly in a region as symbolically significant as the FCT. They criticized the apparent dominance of individuals from Rivers State in key positions within the FCT Ministry, urging the Minister to reconsider his approach and uphold the principles of fairness and inclusivity.
Moreover, RAYC called upon the FCT Minister to align his actions with the mandate of his office and to refrain from pursuing ethnic agendas that could undermine the unity and cohesion of the territory. They stressed the need for the Minister to act in accordance with the broader interests of the FCT, rather than catering to the preferences of a specific region.
