Relief as Edo State PDP Chairman Tony Aziegbemi Regains Freedom After 11-Day Abduction

Aziegbemi’s harrowing abduction sent shockwaves through the political landscape, leaving a community in anguish and uncertainty.

The unsettling incident unfolded on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the stroke of 11 pm, as Aziegbemi was returning home following a meeting with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki. Armed assailants seized him at the entrance to his residence, plunging his loved ones and supporters into a state of distress.

During his captivity, the perpetrators brazenly demanded a staggering ransom of N500 million for his safe release, adding layers of anxiety to an already dire situation. However, against the odds, hope prevailed as Aziegbemi emerged unscathed from his ordeal, much to the relief of his family, friends, and the wider community.

Confirming the liberating news, Senator Odion Ugbesia shared his elation with the press, stating, “Yes, I just spoke to him, it is true. To God be the glory.” The joyous revelation reverberated across the region, marking a moment of triumph over adversity.

In a heartfelt statement issued by Clem Aziegbemi, on behalf of the Aziegbemi family, gratitude overflowed for the outpouring of support and solidarity received during the trying period. “As a member of the Aziegbemi family, we say thank you all for your great show of love and solidarity with us all through the period of the unfortunate and ugly abduction of our beloved son, brother, cousin, and leader, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi for his unhurt release,” expressed Clem Aziegbemi.
