CurrentReport Blog Former Nigerian international, Sam Sodje, has expressed confidence that the recent transfer crises involving Super Eagles forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman will not affect their performances in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Osimhen recently faced a transfer dispute with his Serie A club, Napoli, before securing a loan move to Galatasaray. Meanwhile, Ademola Lookman remains dissatisfied after Atalanta blocked his dream transfer to PSG. Despite these challenges, Sodje believes that the players’ professionalism and commitment to the national team will help them stay focused on the important matches ahead.
Sodje, a former West Brom defender, praised the mental toughness of both players, emphasizing their ability to perform under pressure.
“Osimhen and Lookman are top professionals. They know what is at stake, not just for themselves but for the nation. The transfer issues are part of football, and these players are well-equipped to handle them,” Sodje said.
He highlighted Osimhen’s consistent quality for Napoli and the Super Eagles, stating, “Victor has shown his quality time and again for Napoli and the national team. He may be disappointed about how things turned out, but when it comes to representing the country, he knows what to do.”
Sodje also praised Lookman’s impressive form for Atalanta, adding, “When they put on the green and white jersey, they will give their all. They are focused on helping Nigeria secure qualification for AFCON.”
