Senator Barau Visits Families of Uromi Mob Attack Victims, Pledges Justice and Financial Support

Jibrin, visited Bunkure Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State on Wednesday to offer condolences to the families of the 16 hunters killed in the recent mob attack in Uromi, Esan North East LGA of Edo State. The visit took place at At-Taqwa Mosque in the Sabon Fegi area of Bunkure, where Senator Barau met with the grieving families, many of whom are from Bunkure, Kibiya, Rano, and Garko LGAs.

Senator Barau was accompanied by notable dignitaries, including the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, the Managing Director of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji, and others. The visit was part of the ongoing efforts to show solidarity with the bereaved families and provide moral support during this tragic time.

In a statement delivered by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that justice is served for the victims of the heinous attack. He also confirmed that, in addition to the 14 suspects previously arrested, two more individuals had been apprehended in connection with the killings, bringing the total number of arrests to 16.

As a gesture of support, Senator Barau announced a donation of N1 million to each of the 16 bereaved families, amounting to N16 million. The financial aid is aimed at helping the families cope with their loss and assist in the aftermath of the tragedy. In addition to the monetary support, Senator Barau pledged to sponsor a motion on the matter when the Senate resumes later this month, to ensure that the incident does not go unpunished.

Senator Barau expressed his heartfelt condolences, saying, “I am here to express my deepest condolences over the tragic loss of our 16 brothers. May Allah grant them Jannatul Firdaus and grant a speedy recovery to those injured.” He further emphasized his commitment to seeing that the perpetrators of the violence are brought to justice. “We will not rest until the perpetrators face the full weight of the law,” he added.

The Chief Imam of Bunkure, Sheikh Zainul Abidina Auwal, spoke on behalf of the families, expressing profound gratitude for Senator Barau’s unwavering support. He described the Deputy President of the Senate as a leader who embodies the qualities Nigeria needs for national progress and unity.

This visit and the pledge for justice reflect Senator Barau’s strong dedication to addressing the security challenges facing the nation and ensuring that justice prevails for victims of such violent crimes.
