CurrentReport Blog Mohammed Ali Ndume, the Senator representing Borno South, has called on the military under the North East Theatre Command, ‘Operation Hadin Kai’, and other security agencies to intensify their operations to eliminate the remnants of Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.
Ndume expressed concern over Boko Haram fighters still hiding in the Sambisa Forest, the Mandara Mountains, and border communities around Gwoza and Cameroon. According to the lawmaker, these insurgents continue to pose serious threats to the livelihoods of farmers recently resettled in the liberated areas of Ngoshe, Kirawa, Warabe, Wala, Pulka, and Gwoza town.
He noted that the terrorists have shifted to looting unmatured crops, further damaging the fragile economy of the region.
“Sincerely, the renewed pockets of attacks recently perpetrated by insurgents have posed serious economic setbacks to our resilient farmers… This is because the terrorists resorted to looting of their unmatured crops without confrontation,” Ndume said.
He urged the military and security agencies to intensify efforts in clearing out terrorists still active in the Sambisa Forest and Mandara Mountains, which border Nigeria and Cameroon.
Ndume, a former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, also expressed gratitude to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his ongoing rebuilding efforts in Gwoza communities, which were destroyed by insurgents. He praised the military’s role in restoring civil authority in the area and applauded the deployment of a military doctor, who is offering free medical services to over 10,000 people in Ngoshe and surrounding communities.
In a recent visit, Ndume inspected the land for the construction of 500 housing units for displaced persons from Warabe, part of Governor Zulum’s rebuilding initiative.
Despite the challenges, Ndume acknowledged the governor’s significant contributions, saying: “Like Oliver Twist, we may ask for more, but to be honest, Zulum has exceeded our expectations.”
