CurrentReport Blog The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Sokoto State Chapter has assured that local government workers and teachers in the state will benefit from the newly approved N70,000 minimum wage.
Speaking after an executive meeting at the NLC Secretariat in Sokoto, the state chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu Jungle, confirmed that the wage implementation results from an agreement between the NLC and the state government to ensure peace and development in the state.
Minimum Wage Implementation
The new minimum wage, effective January 2025, reflects the state government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare. Jungle stated that the NLC fully supports the N70,000 minimum wage policy and has subsequently suspended any strike actions related to wage concerns.
“We are committed to working with the state government to ensure only genuine civil servants benefit from this initiative, even if it requires thorough screening and verification,” Jungle said.
Call for Patience and Further Welfare Packages
Comrade Jungle urged all civil servants in Sokoto State to remain patient, expressing optimism that the government would unveil additional welfare initiatives for its workforce in the near future.
This announcement follows the recent decision by 17 state governors, including Sokoto’s, to set up committees for implementing the new minimum wage in their states.
The agreement between the Sokoto State Government and the NLC marks a significant step toward enhancing the welfare of workers, particularly teachers and local government employees, who play a critical role in the state’s development.
