The Tragic Incident
On April 10, 2024, Junior Pope, along with four crew members, perished when their boat capsized in the River Niger in Asaba, Delta State. The team was en route to the movie’s location. This devastating accident led to an immediate response from the AGN.
Suspension and Reaction
In the wake of the tragedy, the AGN suspended Adanma Luke for breaching safety protocols. The Guild prohibited its members from collaborating with her until further notice, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to safety measures.
Suspension Lifted
In a recent statement, Abubakar Yakubu, the National Secretary of AGN, announced the lifting of the suspension. Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas, MON, the National President of the Guild, expressed his condolences and highlighted the importance of safety in the industry.
“The National President of the Guild, Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas, MON, uses this opportunity to announce the lifting of the suspension placed on Adanma Luke, producer of the movie Another Side of Life, where star actor Junior Pope and four other crew members lost their lives in the Anam river. Also, the President lifted the ban on filming in riverine areas but cautioned members to apply all safety standards recommended in the AGN Bylaws,” Yakubu stated.
Moving Forward
With the suspension lifted, Adanma Luke can now resume her career and projects. The AGN’s decision also lifts the ban on filming in riverine areas, albeit with stringent safety protocols in place to prevent future tragedies.
