CURRENT REPORT BLOG Senator Ali Ndume, the Chief Whip of the Senate, has revealed that the presidential yacht deal included in the supplementary budget has already been signed and delivered. The House of Representatives rejected the federal government’s plan to acquire a presidential yacht, costing N5 billion, which was listed in President Tinubu’s supplementary budget for the Nigerian Navy’s capital expenditure. The proposal has faced public backlash, with many criticizing it as extravagant given the nation’s economic challenges.
The presidency clarified that the item labeled “Presidential Yacht” in the 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Bill is not intended for President Tinubu’s personal use. Instead, it’s a naval boat with specialized security features for high-profile operational inspections, ordered by the Navy in a previous administration. President Tinubu inherited both assets and liabilities from past administrations. Out of over N200 billion in submitted payment requests, the President approved N62 billion, which includes the payment request for the boat.
