CurrentReport Blog Renowned South American football expert, Tim Vickery, has named Alejandro Garnacho as a player who could potentially fill the void left by Lionel Messi in the Argentina national team. With Messi sidelined due to injury and nearing the twilight of his career, Garnacho’s recent form for Manchester United has garnered attention.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Vickery described Garnacho as a “line-breaker” with the ability to perform extraordinary feats on the field, suggesting he could play a key role in Argentina’s future.

“Messi is out injured, and you don’t know how long he’s going to be going on. So this is a glimpse at Argentina’s future, with Julian Alvarez in the Messi role,” Vickery said.

Reflecting on Argentina’s recent performances against Chile and Colombia, Vickery noted that while the team held its own, the absence of Messi and Di Maria left a gap in creativity in the final third. He highlighted Garnacho’s dribbling skills and special talents as the qualities Argentina needs moving forward.

“I think this is a big season coming up for Garnacho at United. He could be the one; maybe not starting, maybe off the bench – but he could be the one. The line-breaker, if you like,” Vickery added.
