CurrentReport Blog Nigerian singer Inetimi Alfred Odom, popularly known as Timaya, has expressed concern over the worsening economic hardship in Nigeria. In a recent interview with Channels Television, Timaya highlighted that while economic challenges are a global issue, the severity in Nigeria is unmatched.

Timaya stated, “Things are really hard. I feel it for people because if they are not happy, I can’t be happy. I pay bills, support people, and I understand the struggles.” He also noted how the rising cost of living has significantly impacted salaries and upkeep, affecting both his staff and family members.

Comparing Nigeria’s situation to other parts of the world, Timaya remarked that while countries like the U.S. are also experiencing economic difficulties, the hardship is far more intense in Nigeria. He emphasized that “earning in dollars” is one of the few ways to cope with the economic reality in the country.

Timaya also discussed how the economic situation has affected the entertainment industry. According to him, the cost of promoting music has skyrocketed, with music video production now ranging from N50 million to N100 million, a sharp increase from the N1.5 million it used to cost. “Even promoting the video requires millions, which is why booking fees for artists have also become more expensive,” he added.

The singer’s comments reflect the broader frustrations many Nigerians are feeling as they struggle with the rising cost of living amidst economic uncertainty.
