Amidst the sorrowful news, NIWA has provided updates on the rescue and recovery efforts in the affected areas.
Details Unveiled by NIWA: NIWA disclosed that the ill-fated boat, carrying a total of twelve individuals, encountered the mishap in the outskirts of Onitsha, specifically in the Akpaka Area and Nsugbe of Anambra East local government area. Contrary to initial reports, the incident did not occur in Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area.
Rescue and Recovery Operations: Suleiman Nicholas, the Area Manager of NIWA, affirmed that seven individuals were successfully rescued from the water, while two were found deceased. Tragically, three individuals remain missing, prompting intensive efforts from NIWA personnel, alongside the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria and Marine Police, to locate and recover them.
