CurrentReport Blog The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), stands proud as 252 students graduate with first-class honors degrees, marking a significant milestone in academic excellence. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles Igwe, shared this exciting news during a pre-convocation press briefing held at the university’s Enugu campus.
With a total of 12,526 degrees to be awarded at the 52nd convocation, UNN witnesses a notable increase from the previous year, showcasing its commitment to academic advancement and excellence. Among the graduates, 4,834 achieved second-class honors upper division, while 5,883 attained second-class honors lower division. Additionally, 747 students graduated with third-class honors, and 25 received pass degrees.
Furthermore, the convocation will celebrate the awarding of 1,438 postgraduate degrees and diplomas. This includes 412 Doctorate Degrees, 961 Master’s Degrees, and 75 Postgraduate Diplomas, reflecting UNN’s dedication to nurturing advanced academic research and expertise.
In anticipation of the convocation, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State will deliver a thought-provoking lecture titled “Why Universities Should Lead The Way to A New Nigeria” on May 9th. This event serves as a platform not only for academic recognition but also for stimulating discussions on the role of higher education institutions in national development.
Prof. Charles Igwe took the opportunity to highlight the achievements of his administration over the past five years, emphasizing the university’s progress in various areas such as academic output, staff promotion, infrastructural development, and research grants. He reaffirmed his commitment to elevating UNN’s standards as he approaches the end of his tenure in June 2024.
