CURRENT REPORT BLOG Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has granted approval to a bill that extends the retirement age for teachers in the state to 65 or 40 years of service. The previous retirement criteria were either 35 years of service or reaching 60 years of age. Governor Uzodimma expressed his belief that this adjustment would motivate teachers in public schools to dedicate more time and effort to providing the best education for Imo children, aiming for excellence nationwide. He described this move as a “value addition” and urged teachers to exhibit increased commitment and seriousness in their roles, emphasizing the importance of their contributions to the education sector.

Speaker Chike Olemgbe, representing the State House of Assembly, highlighted the significance of the Executive Bill titled “the Bill to Domesticate and Harmonise the Retirement Age of Teachers in Imo State.” He noted that the bill’s passage marked a historic milestone as the first bill approved by the 10th Assembly. Olemgbe applauded Governor Uzodimma for prioritizing the welfare of the people and commended the well-thought-out nature of the bill. The new law is expected to enhance job security for teachers, encouraging greater effectiveness and efficiency in their educational duties.
