CurrentReport Blog The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria has withdrawn the licences of 574 secondary schools across the country for their involvement in examination malpractices.

This announcement was made by Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of WAEC’s National Office, during a press briefing held at the council’s headquarters in Lagos on Thursday. According to him, the affected schools have been de-recognized as examination centres and will not be permitted to conduct the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

“We have shared with [the government] a total of 574 schools that have had their recognition withdrawn… So we will not conduct examinations there,” Dr. Dangut confirmed.

WAEC has officially submitted the list of blacklisted schools to the Nigerian government and emphasized that all examining bodies would take a similar stance.

Meanwhile, 1,973,253 candidates from 23,554 schools have registered to sit for the 2025 WASSCE, which is scheduled to hold from Thursday, April 24 to Friday, June 20, 2025. Of the total registered candidates, 979,228 are males and 994,025 are females.

WAEC reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its examinations and warned that any schools found culpable of misconduct in the future will face similar sanctions.
