CURRENT REPORT BLOG Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), emphasized that winning election petitions relies on the presentation of evidence and facts, not on social media. His comments came in response to the recent verdict of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), which upheld President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 election. The tribunal ruled that the petitions submitted by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) lacked merit.
Wike has consistently maintained that election petitions are unique and cannot be swayed by propaganda or social media influence.
“I have always told people that election petition is not like any other case. It is a special area. It is not by propaganda. It is not won on social media. It is a presentation of evidence and facts,” he stated.
He also pointed out the example of Peter Obi, who successfully reclaimed his governorship mandate at the Supreme Court without resorting to bribery. Wike acknowledged that while the judiciary was correct in the past, some might now question its decisions in light of the tribunal’s recent verdict.
