CurrentReport Blog The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized House of Representatives member Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, representing Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State, over his recent remarks about the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the G-5 governors.
Ugochinyere, during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today, accused Wike and the G-5 governors of undermining the PDP, describing their actions as “childish and kindergarten politics.”
Reacting to these allegations, Wike, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, dismissed Ugochinyere’s comments as baseless and accused him of benefiting from the PDP while still maintaining ties with the Action Peoples Party (APP).
Wike’s Response to Ugochinyere
In a statement released on Saturday, Olayinka said:
“If PDP had functioned properly, would Ugochinyere have gotten the party’s ticket while still in another party? Even today, as a PDP Rep member, Ugochinyere continues to hold on to his APP, using it to ‘cash out’ in Rivers State. He must now satisfy those funding him.”
Olayinka also accused Ugochinyere of impersonation, stating:
“In saner climes, such a character would have been arrested, tried, and jailed for impersonation. He falsely awarded himself the title of ‘Spokesperson of Opposition Lawmakers Coalition in the 10th National Assembly,’ a position that does not exist in any legislative framework.”
Ugochinyere Under Fire
Wike’s media aide further described Ugochinyere as a “political hustler” who fabricates titles and organizations to advance his political career.
“Being the hustler that he is, Ugochinyere allocated himself a non-existent position to continue his political schemes, and indeed, it has been booming,” Olayinka added.
Background of the Dispute
The conflict between Wike and Ugochinyere stems from internal PDP disagreements and accusations surrounding party loyalty and governance strategies. Ugochinyere’s criticisms have amplified tensions, with both camps trading accusations of political sabotage.
The ongoing exchange highlights the deep divisions within the PDP, as key figures like Wike and Ugochinyere continue to clash over the party’s direction and leadership. Observers await further developments as the party grapples with internal challenges ahead of the next election cycle.
